The app’s sidebar gives you instant access to all 16 chapters of Paul’s letter to the Romans and lets you jump directly to any individual verse with a single click. Whether you are reading straight through or studying a specific passage, the sidebar keeps your place and brings you exactly where you need to go.

The chapter sidebar

The left-side panel lists all 16 chapters of Romans in order. Each entry displays the chapter number alongside a shortened descriptive title — for example, Chapter 1 — The Gospel Announced — so you can orient yourself at a glance without opening the chapter first. Click any chapter entry to open it. The main reading pane updates immediately to display that chapter’s content, and the active chapter entry is highlighted in the sidebar so you always know where you are. Only one chapter is shown in the main pane at a time.

Expanding the verse list

Each chapter entry in the sidebar has a ▶ caret to its left. Click the caret to expand that chapter and reveal the full list of verse references it contains. The caret rotates to point downward when the list is open. Click any verse reference in the expanded list — for example, 3:23 — to scroll the main pane directly to that verse entry. As the scroll settles, the targeted verse briefly animates with a gold left border, making it easy to spot even if the chapter is long.
If you navigate to a verse and then scroll away, click the verse reference in the sidebar again to jump back to it.
The sidebar remembers which chapters you have expanded during your session. Reloading the page resets the state.

The main reading pane

After you open a chapter, the main reading pane displays:
  • Chapter title — the full descriptive title of the chapter, rendered as a prominent heading.
  • Theme summary — a short italicized sentence capturing the theological thrust of the chapter, shown directly beneath the title.
  • Verse entries — each entry is composed of three parts:
    1. A verse reference badge (e.g., Romans 3:23) displayed in a styled callout at the top of the entry.
    2. The Bible text rendered in italic beneath the badge.
    3. The commentary body below the verse text — a paragraph or more of expository prose unpacking the meaning, context, and significance of the verse. Greek terms referenced in the commentary appear in italic throughout.
